The VW-1 Tracker is the newsletter of the VW-1 All Hands Alumni Association, keeping former squadron members, their families, and friends connected through shared memories and news. Its pages bring together reunion plans and reports, association updates, photographs, letters, sea stories, and accounts of squadron history. Alongside the practical business of keeping in touch, the Tracker preserves the personal experiences behind VW-1’s service—the friendships, challenges, humor, and everyday moments that official records cannot fully capture.
The Tracker’s history is closely tied to the association, founded by Ed and Sally Metzger in December 1998. Sally served as an early editor, and later contributors and editors, continued the work of gathering and sharing the VW-1 community’s stories. Historically published quarterly and distributed in print, the newsletter also became available online, with the archive moving to PDF-only editions in 2015. Over the years, it has helped shipmates reconnect, share information, and honor those who have passed away. Each issue adds to a lasting record of the VW-1 family, preserving its memories for younger generations and everyone interested in the squadron’s legacy.
